Vendor vs. Subshop Area Developer

One of my site visitors sent me this astonishing information about a recent event that transpired between a Vendor and a well known Subshop AD office. I believe it to be authentic, as I checked the internet for the main source. But I had to edit out the real names.......it's about "Ignorance vs, Arrogance and an Ass".....sit down then read on....

It starts out innocently with a Vendor approaching a Subshop DA office with a proposal and then quickly gets out of control. Should we laugh or cry is the question?

Subshop DA and an Ass vs. Vendor - heated exchange

Vendor to Subshop DA Office
I just wanted to reconnect with you about the proposal we emailed to you last week.  Would you like to continue discussions on this idea?
Thank you,
The Vendor Company

Thank you Vendor
At this time, I do not see that we have a need. Should that change, I will stay in contact.
Thank you for thinking of us.

Then why did you ask me to prepare a proposal if you didn’t have a need?

Please forward my request.  Thank you.

We spoke on the telephone for 30 minutes as I gave you my ideas and you specifically asked me to send you a written proposal that you would discuss with your boss the next day.  You were energetic and positive about my suggestions.  You indicated that you could clearly see how my services could benefit you directly because as you stated “if the franchisees are more successful, then we make more money.”
You are not a very good business man (..director of operations..).  I will have to notify (the Subshop Franchisor in CT) of your reprehensible behavior.

Subshop Director of Operations’ response:

I am a bit taken by surprise to your aggressive correspondence. First, I have not received any email proposal from you.
Our company receives numerous solicitations daily. Second, I have looked through all of my notes, and I do not recall a 30 minute conversation with you, especially regarding Vendor Co. I do not remember asking for any proposal and perhaps should not have responded to your first email without speaking to you. However, after looking at your website, I was unclear to any proposal. So, I generalized which was my mistake.
Please understand that I answer and respond to over 100 emails daily and work directly with all of our franchisees. I also have (hundreds of) stores that I manage. So, possibly something slipped through the cracks. I would ask for forgiveness on that.
Furthermore, you have my consent to contact whoever you desire regarding my “reprehensible behavior.” My supervisor is ________________.
From your exchange through email, (We) would have no interest in furthering any relationship with Vendor Co.
To include your first response back to me “Then why did you ask me to prepare a proposal if you didn’t have a need?”

Vendor contacted Subshop franchise headquarters in Connecticut.  A short two hours later Vendor got a voicemail from the Director of Operations profusely apologizing for his behavior and saying “I am such an ass, could you forgive me?”  Vendor  responded the next day and copied the DA

Yes, you were an ass to me among other things.  However, I can respect a person who at least knows they’re an ass.  That kind of behavior burns bridges and you just never know how your career may unfold.
May I suggest that in the future you treat everyone with respect, similar to how you would want to be treated?  That way, you don’t come off as an opportunist only interested in speaking with people that can do something for you, rather; simply being of service to anyone that calls.  They deserve it and the future of your business depends upon it.
And, if you didn’t remember me and had not read my proposal, why would you state: “Thank you.. At this time, I do not see that we have a need.  Should that change, I will stay in contact. Thank you for thinking of us.”
You don’t see a need for what?  If you didn’t remember receiving a proposal thus hadn’t read the proposal, how would you know that you didn’t have a need?  Or is that your standard brush off statement?  Again, very poor business manners.
I’ve already made contact with corporate in Connecticut regarding my proposal and they’ll be dealing with you, your rude behavior and the DA Office as they see fit.  Good Luck – you’re going to need it.

The Vendor Company

Moments later, Vendor got an email from the DA

From: Subshop DA

What exactly do you do?
DA.

So, Vendor started the whole process over again and sent HIM the proposal to which he replied,
From: Subshop DA
Subject: RE: Subshop Complaint

Thank you for your response.  I have read through your proposal.  At this time, we will not be needing your services.  We are not currently looking for franchisees at the present moment.
Thank you,
Subshop DA

Vendor  response:

Subject: RE: Subshop franchise Complaint

That is by far the dumbest thing I have ever seen anyone put in an email.  “We are not currently looking for franchisees at the present moment.”  They’re going to love that; so, exactly what is your purpose then – aren’t you in charge of (territory) DEVELOPMENT?  My personal communications with your corporate office are private.  I think I have had just enough of yours, and your staff’s incompetence.  It’s truly baffling.

And here’s the kicker…. Don’t spill your coffee while you read this!

From: Subshop DA

Subject: RE: Subshop franchise Complaint

Then why the hell do you keep on emailing us.  We don’t need your DAMN help!!!  (expletive), if I needed (your proposal) for someone, why would I have them as my franchisee?  And why the hell do you keep on trying to tell me that you went to Corporate?  Do you think that I would get scared and start working with you?  Don’t tell me how to run my territory!!!  I can do WHATEVER I DAMN WELL PLEASE!  So go screw yourself and your damn business.  Don’t contact me any more!

And so it goes, another day in the life of an angry, pushy, ignorant Vendor who agitated a DA and his staff

Time for some Anger Management for both parties wouldn’t you say?
Are you laughing or crying?
