NEW SUBWAY LOOK DEBUTS IN CALIFORNIA………excerpt from NRN

A new Huntington Beach Subway outfitted with sofas, a fireplace and flat screen TVs is determined to alter the chain’s reputation as a “grab and go” fast-food chain.

“The Subway concept is quick.  Pick up your sandwich and get out,” said Alex Chandok, who operates three Subways in Orange County.  “I want to give a message for people that it is a family place where you can relax and eat anytime.”

So, in planning his third Subway shop , Chandok and his wife, Jasmine, asked Subway officials if they could spruce up their new restaurant with amenities that will get customers to stick around longer. (He says 90% of Subway diners “buy and run” at his restaurants.)

With Subway’s approval, Chandok set out to create a “lounge” concept. His 1,800-square-foot restaurant is decorated with six sofas, two 56-inch flat screen TVs and an electric fireplace.

A representative for Southern California Subway restaurants said the Huntington Beach sandwich shop is “the most unique” Subway in the region.

Going forward, future Subway stores built in Orange and Los Angeles counties will aim to replicate the cozier look,  local spokesman Ben Purcell said.

Is this a glimpse at the future "new look"? any comments?
